Relax this holiday
Holidays are a time for us to refresh and recharge, for much of us, it’s a much needed break from our juggling act of work, family and friends. So why do we feel more stressed than ever as the holidays near. We worry about getting everything in place before we go, loading up with thoughts of what could happen while we are away and then what’s in store for us on our return. Sometimes the thought of what we are returning to overrides the whole trip. This much needed break can begin to stir up a whole load of ‘what if’ scenarios.
Whether it’s a short break or a luxury holiday, we are thankful for these periods of time out but still have expectations which are completely natural. We have a picture in our mind of how we want the holiday to be and when those expectations aren’t met it can leave us disappointed. This expectation can put added stress on everyone. If we can stay open to going with the flow a little more, it could make the whole experience a more manageable.
Using Mindfulness as a tool can help manage this.
Write it down, you don’t have to hold all your holiday planning thoughts in your mind. If you’re waking worrying about things you might need to take away, remember everything is worse at night. Write it down and deal with it in the morning. For many of us these thoughts will disappear when we arrive.
As you arrive at your destination, this could throw up a whole load of new concerns. Try to let situations be as they are and not how you think they should be. “When we arrive we are there” When we accept what is, we can calm ourselves, think more clearly. When we remain calm it allows us to best communicate our problems. Practsing accepting gratitude and an awareness of our mind can help us refocus.
